Guto Harri fronts Y Byd yn ei Le, the S4C current affairs half-hour that since June 2018 has dragged Welsh politicians into the high street to explain themselves. The format pairs studio interviews with street surgeries, the first seeing Eluned Morgan grilled by Ammanford shoppers. A second series followed within months after the opening edition landed Theresa May for a sit-down during the Welsh Conservative Conference.
Harri, once BBC Chief Political Correspondent, steered the programme through its most contentious booking in September 2018 when Katie Hopkins was invited to defend her anti-Welsh language stance. The full 23-minute exchange was dumped online after broadcast; critics accused S4C of amplifying bigotry, Harri countered that exposure beats silence. Elen Davies joined as co-presenter in early 2019, bringing a younger perspective to a schedule that had already booked Boris Johnson for a pre-election grilling on Brexit and the resignation of Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns.
ITV Cymru Wales produces the series, keeping the running time tight at thirty minutes and the language resolutely Welsh, subtitles optional. Three series were commissioned within a year, proof that a small bilingual nation will tune in when its leaders are forced to answer questions in their own words, on their own streets.
