Who Is Erin Carter?

A Barcelona supply teacher’s violent past catches up with her when a supermarket robbery exposes her secret identity.

Starring Evin Ahmad· Sean Teale· Douglas Henshall
Overview

Evin Ahmad plays the eponymous Erin Carter, a British supply teacher living in Barcelona with nurse husband Jordi (Sean Teale) and ten-year-old daughter Harper (Indica Watson). Their calm suburban life fractures when Erin foils a supermarket heist, recognises one dying robber and is herself recognised. The surviving thief, Margot Muller, tracks her to a school concert and dies at Erin’s hands, the body buried with help from neighbour and off-duty detective Emilio (Pep Ambròs). Erin’s backstory spills out in flashbacks: she fled Folkestone five years earlier with Harper, reinventing herself as mild-mannered educator while keeping her lethal skillset hidden. Each episode layers another deception: she blackmails neighbour Penelope over an affair to protect Harper, trades secrets with weary inspector Daniel (Douglas Henshall) and spars with fellow expat Olivia (Susannah Fielding), all while a British crime syndicate closes in. Creators Jack Lothian and his seven-episode writers’ room keep the tone brisk, mixing kitchen-sink parenting stress with operatic shoot-outs in Catalan apartment blocks. The series premiered on Netflix on 24 August 2023 and was shot entirely on location in Barcelona, giving its car chases the authentic grind of the city’s ring-road tunnels and beachfront boulevards. Netflix lists the show as ended after one season.
