Too Good to Be True

Four-part Channel 5 thriller in which a cleaner's lucrative new job turns predatory.

Starring Kara Tointon· Charlie Hodson-Prior· Allen Leech
Overview

Kara Tointon plays Rachel, a cash-strapped single mother who leaps at a well-paid post housekeeping for a reclusive millionaire in his glass-walled Irish coastal home. The job arrives through Allen Leech's Elliot, a smiling fixer whose hospitality curdles once Rachel signs an open-ended contract and the gates clang shut behind her. Four nightly episodes follow her fight to escape a trap baited with designer clothes, a limitless credit card and cameras in every room.

Production began in Dublin in May 2023 under the working title The Hunted, until Tointon snapped her anterior cruciate ligament on set and shooting halted while she recovered. Producer John Wallace kept the four-week schedule intact, moving interiors to a purpose-built house on the Bray backlot while Tointon wore a knee brace beneath designer skirts. Writers Cameron McAllister and Nessah Muthy based the script on a story by director Megan K Fox, tightening the action to fit Channel 5's stripped-week strip.

Channel 5 stripped the hour-long episodes across eight nights from Valentine's Day 2024, netting 3.2 million overnight viewers for the opener and halving by the finale. Ireland saw it on Virgin Media as Captivated, Australia on Nine under the same name, and Canadians streamed it on Prime Video before Netflix picked up the retitled version worldwide in December 2025.
