The Tuckers tracks three generations of the same-named clan as they juggle a barely legal outdoor-catering firm with whatever cash grabs come to hand in the fictional Valleys village of Tregarreg. Peggy (Lynn Hunter) keeps matriarchal order while son Glyn (Steve Speirs) plots the next quick pound, abetted by grandsons Billy (Joshua McCord) and Bobby (Ben McGregor) and watched by Bobby’s ex-wife Natalie (Alexandria Riley) and her chaos-magnet daughter Shakira. The humour comes from tight purse strings, tighter family bonds and the creative Welsh insults flung across cluttered kitchens and building-site canteens.
Speirs, who grew up in Tonyrefail, wrote every episode, grounding the gags in first-hand knowledge of post-industrial South Wales: the language is bilingual, the sets are actual terraced houses, and the guest gags land on everything from chip-shop closures to caravan-site scams. A single pilot aired on BBC One Wales in 2018; the full 18-episode run filmed back-to-back in 2021 after the first series became the channel’s most-watched comedy since High Hopes. The BBC confirmed in 2023 that the show would end with its third batch, citing "natural story conclusion" rather than ratings. Three series, 19 episodes total, all still streaming on iPlayer.
