Martin Dougan presides over a single 25-minute stunt contest broadcast 11 August 2015 as part of BBC Three’s disability season. Two mixed-gender teams, Olympic long-jumper Greg Rutherford with Sugababe Amelle Berrabah versus presenter Rick Edwards and model Casey Batchelor, face rounds designed to scramble sight, sound or touch while the host cuts away to spoof ‘backstage’ sketches lampooning clichéd portrayals of disability.
Rounds include Paraoke: one teammate wears noise-cancelling headphones and must name songs by lip-reading the other’s silent karaoke. The Drunk Grand National straps vision-blurring goggles on contestants who bounce the length of a studio racetrack on space-hopper ponies. Flick It, Sniff It, Lick It blindfolds players and orders them to identify foodstuffs using only those three actions.
Writers Seb Barwell, Jon Purkis, Lucien Young and Steve Parry frame the slapstick as a playful experiment in sensory loss rather than a public-service statement, and Dougan closes by cheerfully inviting viewers to ‘return the next time we play The Totally Senseless Gameshow’, though Roughcut Television never revived the format.
