VTM's Flemish take on the Korean format lands in January 2020 with Niels Destadsbader fronting the first four seasons before Jens Dendoncker takes over. A rotating panel of judges, including Karen Damen and soap star Tine Embrechts, try to identify camouflaged singers from sports, music and television while a studio audience votes weekly eliminations. Productions shoots at the VTM studios in Vilvoorde, keeping costs lean with recycled sets from the channel's game shows and a house band that tackles everything from Afrikaans pop to Italian opera.
The costumes lean local: a Smurf for Olympic gymnast Nina Derwael, a giant cone of fries for Eurovision singer Laura Tesoro, and an Atomium robot that turns out to be rapper K1D. Ratings climb steadily, peaking at 1.8 million viewers (52% share) when comedian Camille Dhont is unmasked as Miss Poes in season two. After five cycles the show still delivers the network's strongest 18-44 numbers outside football, so VTM orders a sixth run before the fifth has finished airing.
