The Flatshare

Two strangers share a bed on opposite shifts and fall in love without ever meeting.

Starring Jessica Brown Findlay· Anthony Welsh· Jonah Hauer-King
Overview

Jessica Brown Findlay and Anthony Welsh star as Tiffany and Leon, cash-strapped Londoners who occupy the same one-bed flat at different times of day. She works days at a craft magazine, he works nights as a palliative-care nurse; the arrangement saves rent and guarantees they’ll never bump into each other, so notes on the kitchen counter carry the weight of conversation. The six-episode Paramount+ adaptation of Beth O’Leary’s 2019 rom-com keeps the split-time gimmick: each half hour alternates Tiffany’s chirpy voice-over with Leon’s quieter entries, building a relationship conducted entirely through Post-its, leftover lasagne and a shared houseplant called Brian.

Bristol doubles for a sun-washed east London, cinematographer Laura Bellingham giving the flat a sherbet colour palette that softens the precarity of zero-hours contracts and emotionally brutal hospital shifts. The supporting cast orbit like satellite exes: Bart Edwards as Tiffany’s manipulative boyfriend Justin, Shaniqua Okwok as Leon’s fiercely loyal girlfriend Kay, and Jonah Hauer-King as Mo, Tiffany’s colleague whose own romantic subplot supplies the series’ sharpest comic beats. Script editor Rose Lewenstein trims the novel’s darker edges—domestic abuse, wrongful imprisonment—leaving a brisk 45-minute instalments that favour meet-cute tension over social grit.

Premiering 1 December 2022, the show became Paramount+’s first British comedy commission before slipping quietly into the streaming catalogue and, a year later, onto Amazon’s Freevee. Despite healthy viewing figures on Channel 5’s repeat run in March 2025, no second season materialised; rights remain with 42, leaving the six-part limited run exactly that: a single, tidy love story that ends where the book does, with two people finally occupying the kitchen at the same time.
