The 22-minute toon debuted on 7two in December 2015 and centres on the Nektons: oceanographer dad Will, pilot mum Kaiko, tech-savvy daughter Fontaine and wide-eyed son Antaeus, plus pet fish Jeffrey. They cruise the planet’s oceans aboard the gleaming submarine Aronnax, following clues left by Lemuria, the drowned civilisation their ancestors once ruled. Each season thickens the mythology: first the Chronicle of the Deep, then the scattered Ephemycron, then the monumental sea beasts, until Lemuria itself surfaces in season three and the hunt shifts to locating Will’s long-lost parents in season four.
Vincent Tong voices Ant, the “Chosen One” who alone can activate ancient Lemurian tech, while Ashleigh Ball (later Shannon Chan-Kent) supplies Fontaine’s sarcastic spark. Michael Dobson and Kathleen Barr anchor the adults, backed by a rogue’s gallery of treasure hunters, scientists and egotastic TV explorer Devil Daniels.
Created by comic-book writer Tom Taylor and artist James Brouwer, the series blends Saturday-morning action with serialised lore, clocking 65 episodes across four seasons and airing on ABC Me, CBBC, Family CHRGD and WildBrainTV. Production bounced between Canada’s Nerd Corps/WildBrain and Australia’s Stark, with Singapore and the UK boarding for the final run.
