Widowed artist Tony Twist and his three children relocate from the city to a remote lighthouse on the Victorian coast to start a new life. The family soon discovers that their new home and the surrounding town of Port Niranda are magnets for the supernatural, leading to frequent encounters with ghosts, magical objects, and bizarre physical transformations. A surreal and anarchic staple of Australian television, the series is defined by its embrace of the grotesque and the absurd.
While the frequent cast changes across its decade-long production cycle create some inconsistency, the show maintains a clear identity through its inventive writing and high-energy slapstick. It remains a landmark of the genre for its willingness to explore weird, often scatological concepts within a grounded family framework.
