Carbo is a drifting warehouse worker who accepts a lift from small-time hustler Mici and tumbles into a chain of car theft, cocaine couriering and unpaid debts that ricochets between the slate quarries of Meirionydd, the student terraces of Cardiff and the neon back-alleys of Soho. Adapted by novelist Iwan Roberts from his own novel, the six-part thriller keeps its dialogue resolutely Welsh, letting regional accents and street slang carry the tension rather than subtitles or exposition. Director Huw Chiswell shot the entire series in fifty days, racing through night shoots in Cathays and dawn calls on the Harlech dunes to stay inside S4C’s tight budget. Vox Pictures sold global rights to Netflix, where it streams as Rough Cut, becoming the platform’s first Welsh-only drama and proving that a minority language can travel when the story moves fast enough. A second run was green-lit for 2024, returning viewers to a Wales where loyalty is measured in bruises and every promise comes with interest.
