Oti Mabuse presides over seven episodes in which lonely hearts stand on a mock balcony while hopefuls belt out ballads below. The rule is simple: if the picker likes the voice, they descend the staircase and the new pair are whisked off to rehearse a duet that they must later perform for a studio audience. The viewers then vote for the least cringe-inducing couple, who receive a Virgin Experience Day voucher and, presumably, a sore throat.
Created by David and Ivor Baddiel for Goat Films at Dock10, the show arrived on 16 April 2022 and limped to 11 June before ITV quietly shelved it. Each hour-long slot, adverts included, crams in three potential matches, a crash-course harmony lesson and a finale sing-off that feels like karaoke night at a provincial hotel. The format never found the cult traction of ITV’s other novelty dating exports; even Mabuse’s Strictly-honed charisma couldn’t turn warbling strangers into appointment television.
