After serving ten years for murder, 28-year-old Eddie Mottram is released from prison into the care of probation officer Paula Randall. Both are seeking a fresh start: Eddie is struggling to reintegrate into a community that still views him as a monster, while Paula is returning to duty following a high-profile suspension. As Eddie begins to protest his original conviction, Paula must decide if she is willing to risk her career and reputation to help him prove his innocence.
A sombre and thought-provoking exploration of the British justice system and the limits of rehabilitation. Led by powerhouse performances from Daniel Mays and Anna Friel, the drama effectively interrogates whether society truly believes in second chances or if the "gatekeepers" of the system are as trapped as the offenders they manage. It avoids easy sentimentality, opting instead for a gritty, emotionally resonant look at two disgraced individuals attempting to reclaim their lives.
