Alexander Armstrong and Emma Willis shepherd four couples round the dunes and reefs of Bazaruto Island, Mozambique, in this single-series 2013 contest. Over two days the pairs are whittled down through coconut-stacking, jetty-leaping and mine-swerving games until one team faces "Buried Treasure": a new car containing £50,000 in the boot. The carnival-style interludes, ring toss included, pad the hour but add little tension.
ITV had already considered scrapping the show before it reached air, a rumour confirmed when episode one pulled 1.5 million viewers, down almost a third on the slot average. Broadcast across six Sunday teatimes from 27 October, the run limped to 1 December without denting the public consciousness or troubling the ratings chart.
Richard Osman devised the format, Will Clough directed, and Marc Sylvan and Richard Jacques supplied a calypso-lite score that drifted over Indian Ocean drone shots prettier than any challenge on screen. Six episodes were filmed in October 2012; none have been repeated or streamed since.
