Paranoid

Eight-part ITV crime drama about detectives hunting a GP's killer across Europe while receiving tips from an anonymous 'Ghost Detective'.

Starring Indira Varma· Robert Glenister· Neil Stuke
Overview

Indira Varma, Robert Glenister and Dino Fetscher play the Woodmere detectives called when popular GP Angela Benton is stabbed in a playground. The initial suspect, a vulnerable psychiatric patient, is soon found dead, pushing the team toward a German pharmaceutical company and a shadowy informant who signs his anonymous notes "The Ghost Detective". The investigation shuttles between Cheshire and Düsseldorf, with German detectives Christiane Paul and Dominik Tiefenthaler pulled into a widening conspiracy that links Angela's ex-boyfriend, a drugs cover-up and a hired assassin.

Created by Bill Gallagher and produced by Red Production Company, the series aired weekly on ITV from 22 September to 10 November 2016 before dropping globally on Netflix. An ensemble including Lesley Sharp as the traumatised chief witness, Neil Stuke as the pragmatic senior officer and Kevin Doyle as the elusive Ghost Detective keeps the eight 45-minute episodes brisk, even as red herrings multiply across borders. The show never returned, leaving its one-season arc self-contained yet deliberately downbeat, a murky counterpoint to the neat resolutions of more domestic British crime staples.
