Out There

Martin Clunes leads a six-part Welsh-set thriller about a farming family pulled into county-lines drug trafficking.

Starring Martin Clunes· Louis Ashbourne Serkis· Mark Lewis Jones
Overview

Martin Clunes plays Nathan Williams, a Pembrokeshire farmer who answers his teenage son Johnny’s panicked call after the boy stabs a predatory dealer and dumps the body in a slurry pit. The disposal summons both Nathan’s ex-army brother Caleb and, later, London gangster Ersin Turuk, who demands the farm as a narcotics depot while foreign speculators circle the land for fracking leases. One hen-house becomes a cocaine warehouse, a neighbour’s free-range egg business turns into a money-laundering front, and Polish poultry-hand Natalia Kostrzewa’s Eva is co-opted as courier, all under the watch of quietly suspicious beat cop Eiry Thomas.

Co-written and directed by Marc Evans with Ed Whitmore, the six-hour serial aired on ITV1 between 19 January and 3 February 2025, shot in and around the Black Mountains and Llandovery. Buffalo Pictures produced, with Philippa Braithwaite and Evie Bergson-Korn steering a cast that also features Louis Ashbourne Serkis as Johnny, Mark Lewis Jones as Caleb and Michael Obiora as Nathan’s urbane London solicitor. ITV cancelled the drama in May 2025, ending any prospect of further harvests from the Williams land.
