David Attenborough narrates this Netflix nature series filmed across 50 countries over nine years by the Planet Earth team. The eight-part first season launched on 5 April 2019, combining Ultra-HD wildlife photography with explicit climate change messaging that traditional broadcasters had grown reluctant to fund.
Each episode anchors spectacular sequences, walruses tumbling from Arctic cliffs, hunting dolphins filmed from above, to the ecosystems being lost. Steven Price’s score underlines the urgency without overwhelming the sound of melting ice or crackling coral.
A second season of four episodes arrived on 14 June 2023, shifting focus from habitats to conservation success stories. The production partnered with WWF, and during the pandemic Netflix released the first series free on YouTube for locked-down classrooms, while Indonesian state television broadcast it as part of the Belajar dari Rumah education block.
