Nothing to Declare UK

Fly-on-the-wall series following customs officers at Gatwick, Bristol and Dover.

Overview

Customs officers at Gatwick and Bristol airports rifle through suitcases, intercept freight and quiz passengers while cameras capture every discovery. The Port of Dover occasionally appears when Channel 5 needs a change of tide. Jon Rand’s narration provides the only commentary; officers never speak to camera, so the drama rests on what they find: counterfeit cigarettes, hidden cash, or someone who swears they packed their own bag.

The show began in 2008 under the title Customs UK, rebranding to Nothing to Declare UK from series two onward. The formula never varies: fixed-rig cameras, anonymous travellers, a stern official with latex gloves. Each 30-minute episode stitches together three or four stops, the tension calibrated by how long a rubber glove stays on. No presenter, no interviews, no resolution beyond the officer ticking a box.

Channel 5 keeps ordering new runs because the footage is cheap and airports never close. Dover’s white cliffs pop up when airport queues thin out, proving the Border Force works weekends too.
