Moneybags

Contestants grab answers from a £1 million conveyor belt: right bag pays, wrong bag wipes you out.

Starring Craig Charles
Overview

Craig Charles presides over a 30-metre conveyor christened the Money Belt, where 100 colour-coded sacks totalling £1 million trundle past daily. Two newcomers face off each round, snatching bags whose printed answers they believe correct; a Steal swipes the rival’s highest value, a Give Away dumps your top prize on them, and a single Bankrupt zeroes the hoard. Five right answers across two categories move the leader into a three-way showdown, then one finalist gambles their accumulated pot across four true-or-nothing questions, risking 10% (later 5%), 20%, 50% and finally 100% of the kitty.

Channel 4 ordered the Youngest Media format in July 2021, doubling the run to 60 episodes after a strong first outing. When the production house entered liquidation in February 2023, the show was definitively buried, leaving Charles’ silk-suited swagger and the clatter of discarded bags as its brisk legacy. Joel Golby in The Guardian judged it "the perfect quiz" and its host superior to Gary Lineker on Sitting on a Fortune, praising the ruthless simplicity of grabbing or letting go.
