Mark Wright quit Essex for Sunset Boulevard and ITV2 sent five of his mates along for the ride. The 2012 series strands the group in Los Angeles with a dented hire car, a hotel that greets them with gunfire and, once upgraded, a villa stocked with American women drafted to bulk out scenes. Each hour follows the template: scouting status symbols (yachts, baseball tickets, a Vinnie Jones training session), drinking, and Neil, Tommy or Nick vying for attention of Chelsea, Lauren or Hayley while voice-over Mark sells the banter.
Ratings started at under 598 000 viewers, peaked at 612 000 for episode four, then slumped back outside the channel’s top ten. The production never secured a second run; on 23 August 2012 Lime Pictures confirmed the show’s cancellation. Five episodes, one summer, zero souvenirs beyond a cowboy-lesson finale and a pool party where one lad learns an LA girl has scribbled her number on his phone.
