Love Monster

Seven-minute CBeebies animation about a hairy hero figuring out how to behave in a town of cuddly animals.

Starring Darren Foreman· Tamsin Greig· George Takei
Overview

CBeebies’ seven-minute shorts track Darren Foreman’s small, fuzzy Love Monster as he tackles preschool dilemmas, from sharing the last chocolate to admitting he’s scared of the dark. Narrated with crisp wit by Tamsin Greig, the series keeps its moral compass light: every wrong turn ends in a catchy song and a hug. George Takei’s zen Elder Panda and Sarah Hadland’s helium-voiced Tiniest Fluffiest Bunny supply the knowing humour parents lean in for.

Based on Rachel Bright’s picture books and developed by Bright with Rob Jenkinson, Chapman Maddox and Sindy Boveda-Spackman, the show launched in January 2020 and reached American eyes via HBO Max in December that year. Boat Rocker, A Productions and Karrot Animation render the pastel world in soft felt textures against block-colour skies, a visual comfort blanket that lets the scripts slip in gentle lessons on patience, apology and self-acceptance without sermonising.

Eighty episodes across two series were delivered by September 2022; CBeebies lists the property as “returning” but no further productions have been announced since the rights reverted from HBO. The shorts remain a staple of the channel’s pre-school schedule and iPlayer box sets, their low-stakes charm outlasting flashier imports.
