Cameras track a self-styled "Rich List" of British twenty-somethings who have colonised Puerto Banús to sell beauty treatments, rent super-cars and throw poolside product launches. Executive producer Luke McFarlane keeps the Lime Pictures template that made The Only Way Is Essex a hit: confessionals, glossy cutaways and dinner-table showdowns, only now the backdrop is €10 million villas instead of Essex pubs.
The cast list reads like a start-up directory for resort services. Amy Carter and Sarah Carter co-own Golden Tarts Beauty Salon, while Maxwell Jameson heads booker duties at Target Models and Jon Stretton Knowles flogs Ferrari rentals to hen parties. Former Ex on the Beach contestant Joss Mooney provides the requisite shirtless workouts and Linda Hodgkins, known locally as “Mummy of Marbella”, dispenses advice between shots at her family-run Linekars bars.
ITVBe launched the series on 22 July 2015 as a summer filler, stripped across three weeks in the slot usually occupied by TOWIE repeats. Ratings drifted below 200,000 and by March 2016 OK! confirmed no second run. The twelve finished episodes remain the only record of Marbella’s brief reign as Britain’s televised Costa playground.
