Lie with Me

Four-part Australian thriller where a British couple’s new nanny in Melbourne is not the innocent she pretends to be.

Starring Charlie Brooks· Brett Tucker· Phoebe Roberts
Overview

Anna and Jake Fallmount arrive in Melbourne with their two children, hoping the 10,000-mile move will cauterise his affair back in London. They hire Charlie Brooks’ brittle Anna and Brett Tucker’s penitent Jake hire Phoebe Roberts’ Becky Hart, a live-in nanny whose references check out and whose smile never reaches her eyes. Within days she is rearranging the house, the routines and, quietly, the marriage itself; the camera keeps returning to her phone, thick with deleted photographs and burner numbers.

The four-night miniseries, written by Jason Herbison and shot entirely in Victoria, keeps its revelations parcelled out in hourly increments: a forged passport, a dead woman in the suburbs, a detective played by Nadine Garner who has seen this exact story before but never this version. Herbison’s script never asks the audience to root for anyone; instead it watches the power tilt from employer to employee as the sunlit pool turns cold and the children start calling Becky “mum”. The final episode, aired consecutively with the others in the UK, delivers its sting then cuts to credits without epilogue, leaving the surviving characters to live with what they have rationalised.
