Four to the Floor premiered on 25 September 2014 as a four-part music magazine commissioned by Channel 4 from Lemonade Money. Each half-hour instalment stitched together live performances, micro-documentaries, animation and promo videos, all orbiting a single underground scene or sound. The debut episode dug into London MC culture, pairing freestyles from Joey Bada$$ and Little Simz with cuts by Mac DeMarco, Majid Jordan and Novelist.
A second run arrived in 2015, stretching the brief beyond hip-hop to whatever felt urgent in British alt-music that month. The format stayed lean: no presenter, no studio sofa, just quick-fire segments cut by editors Ben Boullier and Julian Fletcher. That same year the Broadcast Awards named it Best Music Programme, a rare win for a late-night slot with no repeat cushion.
