Bear Grylls dumps eight celebrities into the Costa Rican jungle for twelve days of hunger, cliff descents and river crossings, then flies home to London where he watches footage and eliminates the weakest each week. Survival experts Megan Hine and Scott Heffield track the group, feed Grylls notes, and occasionally haul Olympic swimmer Mike Tindall or soap actor Neil Morrissey out of a ravine. The format is ruthless: no public vote, no immunity, just Grylls reading the daily rushes and axing whoever failed to start a fire or ate the wrong leaf.
Series one, filmed in 2015, ended with DJ Vogue Williams standing on a ridge with two fellow finalists; series two relocated to South Africa and crowned footballer Alex Scott after ten episodes of scorpion snacks and night hikes. Viewers dipped below three million for the 2016 run, so ITV quietly cancelled the show on 30 May that year, leaving Grylls free to chase bigger networks and smaller knives elsewhere.
