BBC News at Nine

Morning news bulletin that ran on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel from 2013 to 2023.

Starring BBC News
Overview

Victoria Derbyshire, Annita McVeigh and Ben Brown fronted the BBC News at Nine, a weekday 60-minute slot that went out at 9 am on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel from 18 March 2013. The bulletin was never a ratings juggernaut, but it gave the corporation a fixed point in the morning schedule between Breakfast and the News at One, and its rotating presenter roster meant Derbyshire’s investigational tone alternated with McVeigh’s Westminster agility and Brown’s foreign-desk authority.

The programme quietly dropped its on-screen title during the pandemic, becoming a generic feed sometimes simulcast with BBC World News, yet iPlayer listings clung to the original name until the last transmission on 16 April 2023. An evening version, also called BBC News at Nine, occupied the 9 pm hour from 2013 to 2015; it ended when Outside Source and a new World News Today took the slot, and the morning edition was eventually replaced by a televised simulcast of Nicky Campbell’s Radio 5 Live phone-in, erasing the last trace of the brand.
