Overview

Bilingual television and radio programme presented in Hindustani, aimed at helping South Asian immigrants to the United Kingdom settle into their new country. The programme was announced on 4 October 1965, with the first television episode broadcast on Sunday 10 October 1965 under the title "In Logon Se Miliye" ("Let Me Introduce You"). The name was changed to Apna Hi Ghar Samajhiye, meaning "Make Yourself at Home", in January 1966.

Mahendra Kaul and Saleem Shahed presented the television edition, with the theme song composed and performed by Shiv Dayal Batish. A companion radio programme launched on the same day as the television debut, broadcasting on the BBC Home Service and continuing on BBC Radio 4 until 28 December 1986, retaining the Apna Hi Ghar Samajhiye title throughout its two decades on air. The television strand underwent a further name change in November 1968, becoming Nai Zindagi Naya Jeevan ("New Way, New Life"), before being replaced in June 1982 by Asian Magazine, which ran until April 1987.

That programme, along with companion show Gharbar, ended ahead of the launch of Network East in July 1987.
