Alice & Jack

Alice & Jack

A dense and frequently melancholy romantic drama charting the volatile sixteen-year relationship between a high-powered finance professional and a gentle biomedical scientist. From their first awkward encounter, the pair finds themselves locked in a cycle of attraction and self-destruction that persists through marriages, tragedies, and career shifts. The series is an unashamedly emotional exercise, anchored by two powerhouse central performances.

Andrea Riseborough is icy and brittle as the emotionally guarded Alice, while Domhnall Gleeson offers a touching vulnerability as the man who cannot quite let her go. Written by Victor Levin, the dialogue is often highly stylized and theatrical, which polarized audiences at the time of release. Some found the central characters frustratingly narcissistic, yet the show excels at capturing the messy, irrational nature of long-term devotion.

It is filmed with an intimate, indie-film sensibility that favors quiet moments of connection over traditional plot beats. A somber but beautiful meditation on the idea that love is not always a choice or a comfort.
