Adolescence

A quiet Yorkshire town is shattered when armed police arrest thirteen-year-old Jamie Miller for the brutal murder of a female classmate.

Starring Stephen Graham· Owen Cooper· Ashley Walters
Overview

A quiet Yorkshire town is shattered when armed police arrest thirteen-year-old Jamie Miller for the brutal murder of a female classmate. As the boy is processed through a cold legal system, his family faces public vitriol while a forensic investigation uncovers a dark obsession with online misogyny. A staggering achievement in technical precision and emotional endurance.

By filming each installment in a single continuous take, the production strips away the safety of traditional editing, forcing the viewer into the suffocating immediacy of the interrogation room and the grieving family home. The script avoids easy answers, instead probing the uncomfortable roots of modern youth radicalization. Stephen Graham provides a towering performance as the tortured father, though the real discovery is young Owen Cooper, who portrays the central suspect with a haunting, impenetrable stillness.

While the real-time gimmick could have felt like a distraction, it instead heightens the tension to a nearly unbearable degree. It is a bleak, essential piece of social realism that lingers long after the camera finally cuts to black.
